Who will forget the magnificent public response to the Government - TopicsExpress

Who will forget the magnificent public response to the Government plan to sell off OUR woodland, following which they promised to protect our woods and even plant more for the future. Well, with examples such as the HS2 train line and Oakenwood in Kent (where a government-approved extention to quarrying will destroy part of an ancient woodland), we have seen just how far their promised protection goes! And the Oakenwood example, although small, was an important test case for future threats. Now, as reported by the Woodland Trust, the promise to support the planting of more trees is also in danger of stalling for at least the next 2 years because of a gap in European policy! Communities, schools, conservation groups, local authorities and other landowners will not be able to get any support to plant more trees or create new woods. Ive signed a petition to back the Woodland Trusts demand for a solution to this serious situation. They want to see interim grants set up so anyone who wants to plant trees, can do so. If anyone else would like to support this demand, here is the link: woodlandtrust.org.uk/campaigning
