Whoever thought that an outsider could stumble across such lush natural and manmade beauty all within the heart of Eastern Europe? Belarus, also known as White Russia, is one of those landlocked Slavic Eastern European nations that sprung up after the collapse of the former Soviet Union. Belarus has come a long way since the collapse of Soviet communism, but as with any nation emerging out of the yoke of the former Soviet bloc, there are still plenty of challenges in which the nation continues to cope and in some cases struggle with well in the immediate present. Nonetheless, it seems that Belarus is economically on the right track; more or less. On an unrelated note, it seems that moving to Belarus might not be such a bad proposition. The cost of living is cheap, real estate is relatively inexpensive (especially in the more rural areas), and the Belarusian autumn is beautifully mind boggling! There is of course one major stipulation; one must become fluent in Russian in order to fully function in a place like Belarus.
