Got the following email from MoveOn today: SPECIAL TRAIN TO TOUR NEW MEXICO AMTRAK ROUTE The endangered route of the Amtrak Southwest Chief will be toured Saturday, July 12th by a special train. Aboard will be the CEOs of Amtrak and the BNSF Railway (which currently owns the line), and Senator Martin Heinrich. Press will be covering the entire trip. This will be a great opportunity to show our support for keeping rail service alive in Northern New Mexico! All petition signers are encouraged to go meet the train and cheer it on. Both Amtrak and the BNSF Railway have already pledged support for keeping the rail service. We just need the Legislature and the Governor to back them up! The approximate train schedule is as follows: Leave La Junta, Col. 9 AM Trinidad, Col. 10:20 AM Raton, NM 11:35 AM (meet w/city council) Springer, NM 12:35 PM (meet w/officials from Philmont Boy Scout Ranch) Las Vegas, NM 4:35 PM (meet w/city officials and hotel developers) Lamy, NM 7:00 PM Albuquerque, NM 8:30 PM (meet w/Mayor Berry the next morning) Come out and show your support for Northern New Mexico Rail!
