Why Ebonyi State Government is in a Political Quagmire– Senator Ucha The pioneer speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Distinguished Senator Julius Ali Ucha has said the reason why the wrath of God descended on the present leadership of Ebonyi State Government is because of their electoral fraud and robbery in 2011 and asked them to await more plagues. The two-term senator of the federal republic of Nigeria stated this at Okpoku Ezekuna Onueke, the ancestral home of the Ezzas during the 2015 Ezza Ezekuna Feast of Unity, on Friday, 2 January. Senator Ucha who spoke in a flawless Ezza dialect, described the Feast of Unity as very significant and important urged the Ezza people to intensify their prayers for God to liberate the land from self-imposed bondage. He noted that Ezza race is a godly race with rich human and natural resources adding that that was why they were able to do the impossible in 2011 elections even though they were unjustly denied their due. He asked God to reward everybody according to his deeds. Ucha who was one of the founding members of Ezza Union, thanked the Ezza people for their unflinching support and solidarity in 2011 which saw to his victory and asked for more in 2015 as he is contesting for the gubernatorial election under the platform of All Progressives Change, APC. He observed that even though that the Ezza race is too large to belong to one political party, he appealed to Ezza to remember that it is foolhardy for hunter to sacrifice an elephant for a cricket. He alluded to the political situation in Ebonyi State to that of Israelites in Egypt. According to him, “We, like the Israelites are in-between Pharaoh with his Army and the Red Sea, not knowing where to go.” We cannot go back to Egypt! We need a Moses to divide the Red Sea for us to get to our promise land. I am prepared to lead us. Our freedom is in our hands! Let me say this, there is no Ezza man who sabotages Ezza race or who says “What is Ezza?” or who forsakes the Good of Ezza land or fellow Ezza man who lives to tell the story. Such person remains fugitive and vagabond.” He, therefore, enjoined the people to pray and work for the good of Ezza nation. “Ezza people in Ebonyi State are still under colonialism and are in need of emancipation and liberation. The struggle for freedom has begun and no other people can fight it for us except ourselves. It tantamount to a wishful thinking and a daydream to believe that one day, the whole Ebonyi people will unanimously agree and hand over power to an Ezza man. That is a political impossibility. We are the ones who will stand firmly and say we need it and defend it by action. No matter how hungry we may be, we should not eat something that will kill us. We should ruminate over and look critically at our human condition in Ebonyi State and vote wisely. All said and done, we should think twice and remember that God has the final say in the affairs of man in this life. And sometimes, it is when everything seems hopeless that God answers the prayers of his people. So, let’s keep trusting in God. Most importantly, it is high time Ezza people stop scrambling for the crumps that fall-off from the political table of Ebonyi State. There is no other food crop greater than yam in the roast fire. We can be the head not the tail. We should remember that God has richly blesses us with great potentials. We should live above human fate because we have a divine destiny. It is time of divine deliverance from human bondage in the name of Jesus Christ” (Shouts of Amen! Roaring) I thank the leaders of Ezza union for their contributions towards the growth, development and sustenance of Ezza Culture especially for erecting an edifice at Okpoku Ezekuna where the Ezza people can gather together. Remember that unease lies the head that wear the crown. There is no how one person can please everybody every time. Ezza my people, if there is anybody who feels there is something I should have done for him or her in the past that I failed to do, I apologize and plead for the person’s forgiveness. It was not intentional but just because I either lacked the means or I didn’t have the power to do so. Julius Ali Ucha is not somebody who likes recounting his good deeds. My philosophy of life is that God rewards each person according to his deeds whether good or bad. When I was the acting governor for 10 days, I approved the construction of Akadoro Bridge and the completion of the Women Development Centre (WDC). With you mandate, I will do you people proud come May 29, 2015. I greet you all!
