Why I Still Have Hope on our Anniversary: As you all know, Im - TopicsExpress

Why I Still Have Hope on our Anniversary: As you all know, Im typically upbeat about life and passionate about self growth and helping others. But viewing the video of Garners death and trying to really wrap my brain around what didnt the jury see that I saw to indict the officer is heavy on my heart. However, I do still believe theres hope in our pursuit of trust and equality and heres why: Perception becomes reality. Your perceptions of people, places and things come first from what you experience, then what you see and hear. For TV, News and Movies formed these. Thank God for the invention of social media and the internet. Why? Because for the first time in history, the people of society has just as much power to provide perspective and transparency to the public as the owners of the big networks that monopolized the shaping of peoples perception for years. 108 years ago today, the fraternity Im a proud member of, was established on principles of scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the uplifting of humanity. They also recognized the need to help correct the educational, economic, political, and social injustices faced by African-Americans. Alpha Phi Alpha has long stood at the forefront of the African-American communitys fight for civil rights through leaders such as: W.E.B. DuBois, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Edward Brooke, Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Andrew Young, William Gray, Paul Robeson, and many others. Considering these principles and initiatives, I challenge everyone viewing this to really think about educating ourselves along with others on how this negative perception and distrust came about and why we should stop allowing the above mentioned media outlets to shape our views. I also challenge the media to stop preying on ignorance and love for controversy for the sake of profit and really start making a move towards helping reshaping the image of minorities in this country. As for the outlets we now have publishing control of, please people, stop posting ignorance for the sake of entertainment and start uplifting our communities with images and videos of things our younger generation can look up to. And to the law officers of this country, we are indeed thankful for your service because it has a real purpose, but please stop profiling and killing our black boys because maybe your experience and perceptions have engrained a deep fear of us all. Happy Anniversary to my brothers in Alpha and Happy New Beginning to everyone that has the courage, faith and wisdom to invoke change. #ChangeIsGonnaCome #KeepBelieving #DoYourPart https://youtube/watch?v=nEM4VlnGNXU
