Why Manny Pacquaio would defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr: I wanted - TopicsExpress

Why Manny Pacquaio would defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr: I wanted to touch on this fight since its the fight that everyone keeps talking about at the moment and its a fight that must happen to settle the debate of who is the best ww of this era. Pacquiao in terms of resume so far is ahead not just because of history making performances of winning 8 titles in 8 divisions, something thats never been done before but based on him destroying every single common opponent that him and Mayweather fought minus Marquez who he fought 4 times, so we really cant base too much off of that although I feel Mayweather would of beat any version of Marquez with it being a tad more competitive. Too many people are still looking at the Marquez fights and thinking that Mayweather would do the same and 2 years ago I wrote a post about why both Marquez and Mayweather both set up their counters differently and one of the things that I said which is fact is Marquezs constant lateral movement, his use of feints and baits while being at a low center of gravity(this was also something Bradley was able to do because of his relative similar size in height when he countered Pac, not only that, he challenged Pacs left hand when he countered) while rotating away from Pacs left, but he pivots out of range and changes the angle after landing an attack, or even in the middle of an exchange, to completely confuse Pacquiao and take away his ability to take the initiative with his swift footwork. He was always able to laterally shift away from an oncoming Manny and Algeri did a lot of this too but Algeri is more of a technical boxer that likes to give angles and punch while moving his feet, but the problem with him was he couldnt resist fast enough because of Pacquaios elite footwork and Pacquaio was able to advance and step back like a fencer, shoot of angles of his own, and his unpredicatability. This confused Algeri and its why Pacquaio was able to beat him to the punch constantly and Pacquaio also attacks the central line(outside of the body) of guys with good jabs and guys trying to set up counters something he did to Oscars jab and kept doing to Bradley every time Bradley tried to set up a counter and Bradley couldnt time him. And something I also said in my post is, Mayweather is a more conventional slick counter-puncher who relies on his control of distance to anticipate and neutralize his opponent. While hes great in reading his opponent and measuring his own punches against their own, he usually does this either going straight backwards or straight forwards, with efficient footwork. He has habituated himself to fighting in straight lines in order to land his favorite punches; lead right hands, pull-counters, jabs to the body, counter or lead left hooks, or counter-right uppercuts when swarmed. But one thing Mayweather almost never shows is the type of lateral movement Marquez or even Algeri showed in their fights with pacquaio. I can point to the De La Hoya and Cotto fights (which I thought he barely won) for evidence of this habit. De La Hoya(past it) and Cotto(shopworn), while still game, had an offensive gameplan that relied a lot on mere feints, jabs and swarms of activity to back Floyd up, and they usually did so with no problem. Even after Mayweather adjusted to the rhythm and started winning rounds, he hardly ever looked impressive and was backing up consistently without ever shifting towards a laterally-minded gameplan. Wouldnt that have made things easier for him instead of constantly giving up the center and having to retreat to the ropes to counter before escaping? Someone with the style of Hopkins (as in VS Pavlik), for example, would prefer such tactics, and Floyd seems to prefer seeing his opponent right in front of him, positioning himself right in front. Fighting in straight lines is not the way to beat Pacquiao; you have to take away the punching angle,(and even that isnt enough to win as we all seen in the Algeri fight) and Floyd cant circle as well as he can back-pedal.(Timothy Bradley even shows better lateral movement than Mayweather does) Another thing thats important to Marquezs success, Marquez has always been able to fluidly exchange with Pacquiao and see the angles in order to time the better shots while rolling with Pacs own. Mayweather, as skilled as he is, has not shown this major quality. The times hes been hurt actually, have been times hes over-committed to his own punches (Corely, Judah, Mosley). He can adjust brilliantly round-to-round,Floyd can counter for 3 rounds and then come forward for 7, while Marquez can switch between momentary aggressor and counter-puncher several times within the same round and floyd lacks that intangible that Marquez has even though hes the superior fighter than Marquez in head to head match ups and if he continues to show his regular movement while not getting his lead foot on the outside with a lateral minded gameplan something he didnt show against Judah right here i.ytimg/vi/dkbJ0f1T_2I/hqdefault.jpg, hes gonna have a long night. Styles (NOT labels) make fights, and Marquez and Mayweather are nearly night and day when it comes to applying their craft. And his defensive stance that he anchors plays right into Pacquaios left handed ambush style and with Pacquaio footwork, he would have a very hard time timing him constantly if he continues to show his regular movement. I dont see this fight being a difficult fight for Manny Pacquaio and I can see him dropping Floyd like he did Shane Mosley and Chris Algeri and to tell you the truth because of styles, I see the fight looking a lot like the Calzaghe/Jones fight mixed with a little Khan/Judah. I see Pacquaio getting some knockdowns and with a big win on the scorecards. But this is my last say on this fight and the same way I called the dynamics of the Algeri fight, I see a similar outcome.
