Why Mathohos contract was extended Kaizer Chiefs feel the contract extension that Mulomowandau Mathoho has signed sends a bold statement to all clubs that have been hovering on the horizon in a bid to entice him away that the towering defender’s heart is firmly in Naturena. Mathoho last month agreed to a new deal that will keep him at Chiefs up to June 2017. The 23 year-old had been previously on a contract that was running up to June 2015 but with the new deal the club feels in as far as domestic football is concerned Mathoho is a ‘Khosi for Life’. Mamelodi Sundowns have for long desired to lure the defender to Chloorkop since he was at Bloemfontein Celtic. “They have tried before when he was at Celtic and even now but we this time we have put a nail on it to say that he is staying. “We have put the nail on Mathoho to avoid these other clubs trying to disturb him the same way that they did when he was still at Bloemfontein Celtic. He had a contract up to 2015 and now expires 2017. “I know that some clubs have already wanted to shake us a bit on him but his contract has now been extended,” says Bobby Motaung, the Chiefs Football Manager. Motaung adds that Mathoho’s new deal is in line with the fact that Stuart Baxter’s also extended his contract at the club. “We have just extended the contract of the coach so he fits in within that program in the sense of the coach being comfortable with the player and being part of the club’s plans. “The player’s ambitions are also to stay here and play for as long as he can. If he gets an opportunity overseas, then that obviously becomes a different story. “His commitment is entirely on the club and we had to acknowledge that by giving him this new contract,” adds Motaung.
