By the standards of Indian politics, Narendra Modi is a young – and fit – 63 only. Opponents have taken digs at his claim of a 56-inch chest, but there’s no denying that his years of discipline and rigorous training have ensured he’s in great shape. In interviews he comes across as sharp, articulate, clear; a marked departure from the muffled tones of his predecessor. He is social media-savvy which is also one of the reasons young Indians identify with him. His tweets have contributed in no small measure to his political persona. Modi’s personal style is Spartan, but never boring. He’s put the cool back into khadi and ethnic jackets. So, in the days to come, we can expect as much interest in the sartorial style of the new Indian PM as in Michelle Obama’s hairstyles. Narendra Modi certainly looks the part.
