Why Should I Believe? We live in an age of great skepticism. One reason for this is that the public discourse has become more and more hostile to those who believe. Secular education from primary to the university level there is a general attitude that dismisses even to the point to mock those who do believe. I believe it is important that we explain, express and understand the reasons to believe. Primarily to strengthen our own faith, but also to be able to fulfill this scriptural admonition. and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:..that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. 1 Peter 3:13 & 14 With that in mind, I will endeavor to provide reasons for our believing in God and specifically why I believe Jesus is God. This is just the First segment on this, feel free to forward and share with anyone you feel might be helped by this. Open Your Eyes 1. Look Up On a dark clear night, go to an isolated place, take a comfortable chair and just sit under the night sky and gaze at the heavens. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world” Psalms 19:1-4 The beauty, symmetry, order and predictability speak to us of something that is that is not explained by random chance. Our universe speaks to a creator. 2. Look around The world we live in is a very exacting environment. Scientist today are banging the drum of global warming and warning of global catastrophe. The temperature has changed 1/2 of a degree in the past hundred years. If the temperature was fifty degrees warmer the world over, there would be limited life. Adjust that to fifty degrees cooler, the same would be true. The axis and rotation of the earth is very precise. The distance from the sun, just a small adjustment in that would be significant. The makeup of our atmosphere is very precise. Though we have expended great effort, time and technology looking for other planets that are habitable, nothing has been found. Further highlighting the precision of our environment that life survives and thrives. These things speak to an ultimate designer. 3. Look in the mirror Examine the miracle of your eyes. How this one sensory part of our being works is a precision that the best and latest technology and computing cannot come close to mimicking. No one would believe that an iPhone could be a product of random chance, how much more incredulous is it to believe that your eye and how it works could be the product of random chance. This exacting and incredible engineering that makes us what we are is a testament that there is a God. The Bible tells us we were made in the image of God. We have a body, we have a soul and we have a spirit. Scripture teaches us that God gave us the divine power to choose right and wrong. The greatest journey any of us can begin is to engage our rational mind in choosing to believe in what is beyond our ability to fully comprehend. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
