Why are the state and the central governments in such a rush to - TopicsExpress

Why are the state and the central governments in such a rush to show that kashmir is back to normal. After every human tragedy in the last 30 years, irrespective of the magnitude of the tragedy, it has always been the policy of the government to show to the rest of the world that everything is hunky dory here . This time round the policy seems to be the same. Very hurried steps are being taken to present a picture of well being. Cant anyone including our very learned bureaucracy (after all they all have passed the ias or kas exams on their own merrit) fathom the colossal magnitude of work to be done to heal the gaping wounds this flood has left the city and its people with. The loss of life was minimised so far due to the innovative and near reckless bravery of our youth. The strength men and women showed not only in saving their families but those of others. A strength that is granted to even the most timid in face of a calamity by the creator Himself. And yet our supposedly enterprising politicians and the learned bureaucracy is willingly and delibrately doing their best to bring more calamity to this city by their thoughtless and directionless inefficiency and inaction. They are trying to relegate the massive destruction to the we already have done what could be done. File closed, catagory. Why? The hospitals are still not operational, even the cleaning and sanitising is not done yet. Doctors are issuing calls for help in cleaning the smhs hospital on fb. What about the damage to the medical equipment. Patient care seems a futuristic dream. The areas like chanpora and nati pora where the water receded in 2 days have tons of filth lying on the road side every hundred meters. All potential breeding grounds for the most fatal of diseases. No one is even bothered to get it removed afters 15 days now. Let the people governing know that just like the flood waters did not spare them........ The areas of rajbagh, gogji bagh and jawahar nagar are still inaccessible to its residents, still being six feet under water. People come each day to the embarkments surrounding these areas in the hope to see what became of the structures they once lovingly called homes. These are people shateted, exhausted and apprehensive. The have no where to go. The dont know what became of their possessions. They dont even know if their houses will ever be habitable. Nor is anything being done to facilitate immediate relief to those whose homes were destroyed or damaged. People are supposed to visit their respective police stations and get their names and addresses registered. Probably they cant believe we are still alive. The patwaris have been asked to report back with their assessment of the damage to the residential and commercial structures immediately, that too with the knowledge that most of the worst hit areas are still submerged. How can they assess a structure that is not even accessible.? By the way asking a patwari to asses damage to a structure is like asking a politician to perform a heart transplant surgery. The whole city needs health and general safety advisories and cleaning and sanitising advisories if nothing else. The minute water recedes to plinth level in any area, people rush to clean their homes. They do it with the same flood water that is supposed to have turned to poison as no other water is avaliable. This near fatal act is, in their naivety, made safe by our mothers and sisters by wiping over with a bottle or two of phenyl. There is no information on immunization eacept rumours galore. I can go on and on with what still needs to be done but i wont for i am sure our bureaucracy that as i have said cracked the ias and the kas exams on their own merrit know it better then me. And yet the hurry to show all is well here continues. The university of kashmir is reopening tomorrow with the diktat to the staff that teach only one student if only one shows up. Why? For gods sake what is the hurry. Those who lost everything in these floods, those still looking for a shelter, water, food or medicines, those who cant attend this very esteemed institution, for them wont it be grossly unfair when some students living in areas not affected by the floods attend. How will the university compensate what they will miss. Probably the same way the govt is compensating their misfortune and loss.... by doing nothing. There is even talk about schools opening next week. Rumours are circulating that the private school lobby stand to lose tons of money from the new admissions and the winter quarter fees if the schools dont open soon. Is the government going to give thought to the safety of our kids after many thousands had miraculous escapes. Are school buildings sanitised? Are the school buildings safe after being submerged for weeks? Is there no danger of cantacting or spreading disease in class rooms? Who is going to certify that the schools have been made safe? How many have been able to save books and clothes and uniforms of their children? How many kids have overcome the fear and trauma they went through? The high court has opened on the gupkar road in a small building. Cant the state machinery have cleaned the high court premises and made it functional 15 days after the water receeded in that area. No they couldnt have. Coz they didnt. There is no government machinery avaliable even supposedly for the highest seat of justice of this state. Aam aadmi ka kya haal hoga? Stop the delusional stupor you governing this state are in. Wake up. All is not well here. Nothing is.
