Why do leaders recklessly cheat their subjects in public Barasa? On 18th October 2013 a meeting was held in Turingwii near Isiolo to promise land allocation to unsuspecting citizens. They had been promised that they would be given five acres each and so they were willingly fried to the site in Lorries Buses and Pick-Ups. To their surprise, they found that the land in question is fully cultivated from the airport to the boundary of 78 tank battalion. In the same area are the following schools; Turingwii Primary School, Mwera-o-Malia Primary school, Kisima Primary School, Ntulili Primary School and Ntulili Secondary School. Two years before, the same leaders in collaboration with the defunct Nyambene County Council had initiated a partial development plan on this land covering 1,300 acres and created 2,911 plots which they allocated to their friends disregarding the land owners completely. When this happened the land owners of Tigania West wend to court and they got an injunction to stop the allocation until the case is heard and determined. Similarly the farmers of Tigania East went to court on the same basis and they too got an injunction on similar terms. Sometimes last year the council in league with the political leaders ensured that some people were arrested for farming on their land. These people were taken to court but the high court dismissed the case with cost enabling the farmers to continue with their activities without harassment. At a meeting of Amuthumba convened by the area MP and the entire District Security Apparatus, the famers were asked to continue farming but avoid any matter that would spill blood. They were encouraged to elect their land committee to supervise land adjudication because the area had been declared an adjudication area by the District Land Adjudication and Settlement Officer, Tigania East and West Districts on 15th October 2009. They did this peacefully and submitted their list to the DLASO and the DC. The meeting of 18th October was therefore an abuse of office and instead of telling people the truth, the time was spent insulting other leaders contrary to public ethics or the respected Tigania Elders code of never using abusive language on a public podium. In a populist move they asked people from far away locations to elect a land committee to convert the land into a scheme and allocate each person five acres contrary to the existing declaration under cap 284. If this is done, this exceedingly peaceful area will be converted into a conflict area with possible bloodshed. Where are the elders to stop this recklessness? Who will compensate the many innocent citizens who were cheated of their money through fraudulent plot allocations?
