Why do we celebrate our republic day on 26th January? The date 26th January represents the remarkable day in India’s freedom struggle. On this day in the year 1930 the tri color flag was hoisted with pride and anger by our freedom fighters publicly. The thought of ’ independent India’ which was burning in the mind of all the Indian’s were converged together as a single thought on this day. This clear thought that ‘India would be a free country ‘ though was headed by Gandhiji but was vigorously believed and forced by the then young patriots like Mr.Nehru and Mr.Subash Chandra Bose along with many other leaders. First Gandhiji’s idea of call for the British to grant dominion status to India was not accepted by Mr.Nehru and Netaji, While they both demanded “complete national independence” – PURNA SWARAJ Which was not agreed by Gandhiji . Yet latter due to British’s denial of reforms and political rights, Gandhiji and all other leaders unified with the idea of ’Purna swaraj’ “The British government in India has not only deprived the Indian people of their freedom but has based itself on the exploitation of the masses, and has ruined India economically, politically, culturally and spiritually….Therefore…India must sever the British connection and attain Purna Swaraj or complete independence.” states - Indian declaration of independence, drafted by MAHATHMA GANDHI The Declaration of Independence was officially promulgated on January 26, 1930. had advocated explicit Indian independence from the British Empire. After the british officialy left India during 1947 , the new Constitution of India, as drafted and approved by the Constituent Assembly of India, was mandated to take effect on January 26, 1950, to commemorate the 1930 declaration. On that day in 1950, India became a republic. So we celebrate our republic day on January 26 – commemorating the sacrifices of Indians during the struggle for freedom and also honoring our military, air and naval forces, prominent achievers of society.
