Why do we specialize in pediatrics and treat newborns? Just being born can be the single most traumatic event in a childs life! Birth trauma can be the result of a difficult labor and delivery or one in which assisted delivery was utilized with forceps or vacuum extraction. The newborn spine and cranium should always be evaluated for the presence of birth trauma that results in subluxation or cranial joint dysfunction. Correcting these things as early as possible is essential to prevent a host of other structural and neurological manifestations later.
