Why does it seem like everyone has already decided that the Ferguson grand jury will fail to indict? The cops and politicians are already set to overreact (shocking), as are the protesters (equally shocking). Its like everyone is poised to go batsh*t about an already foregone conclusion. There hasnt been a single piece of evidence or testimony released to the public. They just might charge Officer Wilson, so why are so many acting like it cant and wont happen? Shall we not, good people, all calm the fark down and wait like good, little children to see what the justice system hath brought forthe before we decide to start smashing windows and spraying tear gas? Personally, Im ashamed of just about every man, woman and child involved in this idiotic affair. The capacity for rational thought is what separates us from our animal brethren, but scratch the surface with a little fear mongering and we sprout hair and fangs and start clawing away at each other like cornered wildcats. And for the record, wearing a uniform and acting in concert doesnt necessarily make you any less base in your actions than someone throwing a brick through a window. Hell, fish and ants can pull off group symmetry - it doesnt mean theyre thinking. But just what does it say about the Justice For Mike Brown crowd that they already seem convinced that the grand jury will not find the evidence to bring an indictment? Could it mean that way, deep down, in some place theyre scared to admit exists, even THEY think theres a possibility that the evidence just isnt there? And what about the cops, the politicians, and the Mike Brown Is A Thug folks? Could it be that maybe, just maybe, they know that the system is rigged? That the deck is stacked so severely against young, black men in this country that even gunning one down in the street whos armed with nothing more than a box of stolen cigars (or a can of iced tea?) still falls into the category of what law enforcement types (never around you and me of course) still jokingly refer to as misdemeanor murder. Oh dont get me wrong. I live in the world. I dont expect either side to admit that they harbor these thoughts. To do so in 2014 is tantamount to treason against ones own, rhetorical wall of bullcrap. Im just asking a couple of pertinent questions to the wind in hopes that maybe, against all odds, somebody will start thinking first and reacting later. Its a small dream, but its mine and I like it.
