Why is it that as soon as someone dislikes a horses behaviour they think the best thing to do is either lunge or ride the crap out of them? I cant emphasize enough, ground work, ground work, ground work! If you havnt got respect on the ground and personal space what business have we got getting on their backs or putting more and more gear on them to ride them into submission? One of the first things I do is poll yielding, it gives me an indication exactly where the horse is at. Although I can tell with the rider and horse as soon as I drive up whats going on usually. I teach one on one with clients "Hoofmanship and Horse Sense". In other words confidence around your horse and respect from your horse.
