Why is it that the deaths of westerners is appear more important or influential than those in countries like Nigeria where thousands are being killed? Perhaps this isnt just about them being white men, but rather that this was an attack on a core principle; free speech. If so there is no greater threat to it than the very Governments now condemning the terrorists. In fact, as we have seen in the US the damage done by the attacks were trifling compared to the self inflicted damage done in response. While I dont have all the answers Im pretty sure that sacrificing free speech and democratic freedoms are not the way.
