Why should Mayor Mabilog win the 2014 World Mayor Prize? Basically, I have never seen the people of my beloved hometown, Iloilo City, this happy. I am, too, happy of the booming progress that my city is undergoing.Whenever I see posts from the official page of our Mayor, or the page of Iloilo City itself, I cant help but notice the satisfied and happy comments of my fellow Ilonggos. I have lived 25 years in Iloilo City and never have I seen the intense cultivation of the Iloilo government to help Iloilo City reach a full ripening. I see tourism well taken cared of. The Esplanade is one of the places I would totally recommend to any foreigner, it is a project that has been fulfilled during the tenure of Mayor Mabilog. Now, I can see numerous projects being planned, constructed, and promised to be constructed in the future. I have been to airports but none can say peace and serenity like the Iloilo Airport situated in green Cabatuan surrounded by the vivid and obvious epitome of home. What makes Iloilo City the BEST is that every time I think of it, I can only say these words I AM HOME. When I was a little girl, I fell in love with the simplicity of SM Delgado, the humble facade and the simple interiors of the mall, the sight of Jollibees fronting Shakeys, the satisfied look on my Moms face while we indulge in our humble Ilonggo life. I AM IN LOVE WITH ILOILO. And as I grew older, I find myself sipping coffee in a cafe in Plazuela Iloilo, I cant help but remark on the numerous accomplishments my city has. From a simple SM Delgado, the only mall way back early 90s, Iloilo gave birth to Robinsons, SM City, and many more. Now, seeing the posts on my laptop, more projects will be on their way to my beloved city. And much of its progress facilitated by our dear Mayor. Iloilo is indeed a growing bud among a field of flowers. No matter how fancy other roses may seem, Iloilo will always be close to my heart. I will not trade it for other fancy places, I am in love with Iloilo. Its not about the fancy skylines, the tall buildings, the undeniable noise of urbanity, Iloilo is progress but it still reminds me of home: old mansions made immortal, strong Ilonggo culture made imminent, that gives birth to a prominent bond among all Ilonggos. Mayor Mabilog deserves to win the World Mayor. But if not, no prize is greater than a people in love with their homeland. No matter where I go, what places I reach, in the end, it will always be Iloilo that Id go home to. GOD BLESS ILOILO. Lets support Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog for World Mayor 2014 at worldmayor!
