Why should we welcome PK? Hinduism is characteristically different. It allows criticism and critical examination of the practices it follows. This is celebrated as a basic character of modern value system. If it wouldnt have allowed that in the past, specifically in last 150 years, the following would have happened 1) No education of woman, some social reformers challenged then existing religious norms in second half of 19th century. Even in 2014, someone at the highest positing of the institution promoting hardline approach criticised woman education 2) Rampant childhood marriages. Some reformers in Maharashtra and Bengal challenged existing religious conventions to raise the official marriage age to 12 years 3) Widow remarriage, it was taboo and banned completely. But someone out there challenged that and took pain to establish widow remarriages 4) Voting rights for woman, role of woman in the public discourse was not accepted so was the voting rights to them. 5) Property right to woman, its still not accepted by the orthodox , but firm decision in favor of them is providing that right now This is the beauty of Hinduism, it provides room for reforming itself. That is why it is tolerant than others. If we wont allow it to follow the same line, there wont be any difference between it and hardline religion
