Why you should NOT chase after your dreams...Part 2 What is the “Dream” Mentality? Sadly enough, society has fallen into it like a black hole. Lately, people pitch the “Dream Chaser” concept. We have influential people that stand before us letting us know that we can accomplish and have whatever we put our minds to. I’m not disputing that. However, I stand firm on the fact that a dream is not personal. A dream is simply a fantasy that’s up for open grabs. You can have it…she can have it…he can have it…we all can have it. It focuses on what we desire to become, not what we were chosen to become or what we’re good at. It’s based on senses and emotions – what we see. We see the glitz and the glam and we want it. The ramification of this mentality often leads to a race for the top spot. We’re all thrown into the pool of success and we kick…scratch…bite…you name it to push ourselves to the forefront. It may even come at the expense of others or through “Burning Bridges” along the way. We never really feel at peace because as we’re often told, “There’s someone out there waiting to take your spot.” Dreams are for everyone and they can be stolen. That’s the primary reason why we’re urged to silence our tongue around others. “Don’t tell people what you’re going to do.” We’re fearful that if we slip up and tell someone, they’ll turn around and pursue it and just might accomplish it before we do. Instead of creating an inclusive and cohesive environment, it becomes everyone for themselves. If You Can Do It, I Can Do It… Individuality has been lost in the sea of conformity. We’re trying to be “THE NEXT” instead of being “OUR BEST.” Little girls have ambitions of becoming the next Beyoncé and little boys dream of becoming the next Kobe or Lebron. We look at the road they took and figure if we do the same, we’ll get to where they are. Never follow someone else’s path because you don’t know where it will lead you. Let’s be real, you’ll never become them. WHY? That is their gift. They’re operating in their calling. I’m not saying you would never be able to achieve the success of being a singer or NBA player. What I am saying is, instead of focusing on becoming a replica of someone else, find what you’re supposed to become. There is only one Beyoncé…one Kobe…one Lebron. God makes each of us unique. Even with identical twins, each one is unique in their own way. They have their own separate callings that the other cannot fulfill. It takes maturity to find your calling and walk in it. Unfortunately, some never really live out their true potential because they pattern their lives after someone else’s... Continue Reading at ambriacamelle.wordpress
