Wildlife Training Opportunity for Young Graduates in Nepal FON Nepal is pleased to announce a training opportunity for young Nepali graduates who pursue their future career in wildlife research and conservation. We are looking for smart, motivated and dedicated graduates for this training. We expect the training helps you to update yourself on the contemporary techniques and methods for wildlife research and management through theoretical tutorials and ‘in situ’ field work. Training location:6 days tutorial (Kathmandu); and 13 days ‘in situ’ field work (location will be announced later) Duration: 19 days (1 December, 2014-19 December 2014) Topics: • Acts, regulations and guidelines of wildlife rule, regulation and policy, • Research technique of mammals, insects (butterfly), birds (owls and other birds of prey) and herpetofauna, • Camera trapping technique, • Ethno-zoology survey, • Overview on special projects (snow leopard, tiger, clouded leopard, wolf, raptor, wildlife poaching and trade, pangolin), • Introductory GIS, • Basic statistical tools Qualification: Academic: Bachelor/Master students in forestry, zoology, environmental management, environmental science, rural development, veterinary science, mass communication and natural resource management and other relevant fields Language: Fluent in speaking and writing Nepali and English language Equipment: Must have sleeping bag, trekking backpack, water bottle, a pair of trekking shoes, own binocular (10*40, 8*40, 10*50) and preferably a laptop Membership: Must be a member of FON Nepal in its face book page. Please become a member if you are not yet at: https://facebook/fonnepal2005 Other: No experience needed, male and female both are equally encouraged to apply Commitment: • The trainee must be able to work in a group, in a harsh environment, any time and place. • The trainee must work as an unpaid (online) intern for six months in FON and must design a wildlife related project/proposal in collaboration with FON Nepal after the training. They will independently run the project. • The trainee should not have problems with staying as a paying guest in a village during the field work. • The trainee should conduct his/her thesis in a wildlife related field after the training. Number of participants: • Total trainees needed: 10 (ten) Fees, accommodation and equipments: • No application fee and training fee are required • Lodging, food and transportation will be managed by FON Nepal • The basic resources of books and equipment will be provided by FON Nepal during and only for the training How to apply: -Application (cover letter, max. one page), -Letter of motivation (max. 500 words with your interest and future plan), -CV (max. 2 pages), -Recent photograph (1), -Recommendation letter from a referee from the conservation field/University teacher (max. one page) Deadline: 15 November, 2014 Please send the entire documentation (must be in PDF format and all in one file) to naturesfren@yahoo, with the subject “wildlife training 2014 (II)”. Please send the photograph in a separate file in JPG format in the same email. A ‘no objection’ letter will be required from the parents of the selected trainees prior to moving to the field. Disqualification: • Incomplete applications will not processed, as 60 % of applications were in this category last year • FON Nepal is a purely volunteer based non-profit organization (only for wildlife research and conservation). There is ‘zero tolerance’ for influential telephone calls, emails and personal visits while selecting the trainee.
