Wildlife sighting! This Common Loon was spotted at Fifty Point - TopicsExpress

Wildlife sighting! This Common Loon was spotted at Fifty Point Conservation Area two times in the Marina last month. This loon may look a little different than the black and white loons we are used to seeing, but that is because that is the Common Loons summer plumage. The grey colour seen here, is what the Common Loons winter plumage looks like. As you can see, this loon is enjoying some Yellow Perch for lunch, a pretty typical meal for the species as their diet is mostly made up of fish. The Common Loon can live up to 20yrs in the wild, but unfortunately the Common Loon is becoming a little less common, and the species is in decline. For more information on their decline, or to volunteer in the monitoring process, please visit the following link. birdscanada.org/volunteer/clls/resources/CLLSsummary.pdf A special thank you and photo credit to Kevin McLaughlin for sharing these photos with us.
