Will, Caleb, Michael, Jeremy & Dalton, Congratulations on the - TopicsExpress

Will, Caleb, Michael, Jeremy & Dalton, Congratulations on the completion of your rank! I know that much hard work and effort was spent completing those requirements for advancement. Your Scoutmaster Conference and Board of Review has been scheduled for Monday, August 19 (tomorrow) and Monday, August 26. The Troop 101 Committee Members (Garry Cabaniss, James Phillips, Dale Pennington & Jimmy Yarboro) will be conducting your Board of Review. I just wanted to let you know that your work is not yet completed! The Board of Review has the ability to fail you and not allow you to advance in rank if you do not meet certain criteria. There are a number of pass or fail question that you will be asked. A fail on one of these questions would nullify your desire for advancement. Did scout appear before the Board of Review in full uniform? Was the uniform worn correctly and scout neat in appearance? (this is a pass/fail question) Did the scout know the following: Scout Oath, Scout Law, Scout Motto, Scout Slogan, The Outdoor Code (this is a pass/fail question) Did the scout complete all the requirements (book work) for rank advancement? (Be sure to check signatures in the book.) Did scout meet the 2/3rd’s requirement for the quarter prior to advancement? (Check attendance chart) Did the scout show scout spirit and have a good attitude during the review? While this is a subjective question to be answered by the board, it should be noted the board has failed a scout for lack of scout spirit and a poor attitude. As you advance in rank the Board of Review will take longer and ask you more in depth questions. A Tenderfoot review could be 15 minutes while a Star review could be 45 minutes or longer. While the Board of Review is not a retest of skills, it is intended to check the maturity level of each scout and be sure the scout is ready and prepared for advancement. The secondary motive of the Board of Review is to prepare scouts for the Eagle Board when that time comes. It is our goal that as you advance in rank and go through each Board of Review, that you will have gained the confidence necessary to go before the Eagle Board. What you learn from the Review (interview) process will be valuable experience that you can take with you and use in and out of scouting (employment interviews, college interviews etc.). So a job well done thus far, but your work is not yet complete. Look forward to your Board of Review and “Be Prepared”!
