Will someone PLEASE present a valid argument for men making more money than women at the same job? In all honesty, am I missing something here? I cannot understand why equal pay isnt the law of the land. I just DO NOT understand why this is even being debated in 2014!! My dad died in WWII and my mom took a job in a factory that made feed bags (Bemis Bag Co.) to support us, the us being mom, my sister and me. It was common knowledge among the workers that men working the same jobs as women made almost double what the women did. When I asked mom about that several years later she just shrugged her shoulders and said it was okay because men were supposed to support their families. I pointed out the obvious, that SHE was also supporting a family, as well as doing household chores, but she still didnt think she should have been paid the same. That conversation took place in 1950 or 1951, and Ive remembered it because even as a kid I understood the concept of fairness. More than 60 years later and this archaic attitude is STILL alive and kicking. How can America expect to be a respected leader in the world when we treat over half of our citizens as less than? And know this - NO to equal pay is just another weapon in the GOPs anti-woman arsenal. It just happens to be the most glaringly stupid concept. Hell, they cant even come up with an argument in support of it. I cant help but wonder what kind of jolt the economy would undergo if equal pay became a reality coupled with a livable minimum wage. Of course, the GOP doesnt want the economy to do too good - not under President Obama. VOTE - VOTE - VOTE - all their money wont mean a thing if all of us VOTE.
