Will someone please explain to me when and why there is this obsession with squatting your deadlifts? Conventional or Sumo? Every single video of some so called coach I see instructing this has horrid set ups. In conventional their tibias shoot forward of the bar causing their knees to go over the bar with their shoulders way to far back from the bar. And even though they initially set back into a nice squat annoying when they finally try to pull instead of drive the weight up their hips shoot up and they have to try to pull the bar back as they have to then shoot their knees out of the bars path! That is a piss poor use of any kind of mechanical advantage. Sumo same freaking thing. Its a SUMO DEADLIFT not a SUMO SQUAT. Yes, their needs to be leg drive because deadlifts are more about pushing than pulling unless you are doing Romanian or Stiff legged deadlifts or my other favorite deficits. Still feeling those suckers from last session =0). The goal is to find YOUR mechanical Advantage get tight pull yourself into the bar initiate the breaking of the floor and drive that weight up past the knees and then pull the bar back as you aggressively drive your hips thru to a very strong Glute SQUEEZE!!! So depending on a few things like length of arms and/or legs and/or Torso. Adding to this natural mobility and motility. You need to first stay LIGHT and find our Ideal Angles to create the best mechanical advantage with optimal form to safely and effectively Lift HEAVIER AND HEAVIER. And you must do your accessory work. Because any ANY weakness will show itself when you get HEAVY!!! Happy Lifting. End Rant ~Lynne~
