Will you open the other door? Observing folks is interesting. Today, I watched how we exit rooms or buildings as a crowd. Twice I noticed that as people were migrating out of a building, they continued to go through one open door… Leaving the other door closed. I suppose its human nature to “follow the crowd” but also shows how we tend to let others do the, ah … hard work… Eventually the other door was propped open allowing others to exit more quickly. What’s interesting is how we tend to translate this behavior to a lot of problems or challenges we face. I’ve noticed similar behaviors where folks or teams continue to follow the crowd versus pausing and really looking at the situation. Opening the other door sometimes required a bit more effort. Sometimes it requires a bit more risk… To break the mold. But when you do, a lot of people will follow you. Try to open more doors. #TEAMWORK
