William Wilberforce (1759 - 1833) became a member of British - TopicsExpress

William Wilberforce (1759 - 1833) became a member of British parliament at the age of 21 and adopted as pet project the extirpation and abolition of slavery and slave trade. He dedicated his entire public career to the cause of the slaves and succeeded. First he stopped ocean traffic in slaves by British ships, then followed the emancipation of the slaves in the British Empire. At midnight on July 31, 1834, 800,000 slaves became free. That was the doing of William Wilberforce who declared that God Almighty has set before me the objective of suppressing slavery. The question now is, does the Almighty God ever set any objectives before our own National Asembly members in Nigeria? Like the abolition of corruption?
