#Wingfield Barns International MINI PRINT Exhibition July Aug 2014: Wingfield Barns International MINI PRINTS Exhibition 2014 Gallery 2 Since 1995, the exhibition has been shown annually in L’Etang d’Art Gallery in Bages, France, in the UK at Wingfield Barns and in Cadaqués, Spain. The Mini Print International of Cadaqués, Spain, is the most popular and longest running exhibition of mini prints in the world. The exhibition includes a record number of 740 prints this year from 600 artists from over 50 countries. The technical and formal quality of the works is very high providing visitors with the opportunity to buy and own an original work of art by a contemporary artist at a very affordable price. This has encouraged the exhibition to expand year on year since it was established in 1981. The Mini Print Exhibition has always aimed to show artists’ work to the widest international audience. It has toured with great success in the United States, Japan, Korea, France, England, Ireland, Finland, Andorra, Mexico, Colombia, and Spain. Wingfield Barns has invited Rosemary Elliott as guest artist to exhibit a selection of her paintings and prints in adjacent Gallery 1 during the International Mini Print Exhibition in Gallery 2. She has exhibited widely in London and more recently in East Anglia since moving to Wingfield in 2007. Rosemary exhibits regularly with the East Anglia Group, former students of the Royal Academy Schools who live and work as professional artists in the region. Following graduation from Walthamstow School of Art, Rosemary trained at the Royal Academy Schools from 1963 – 1966. Her earlier work was large-scale and strongly influenced by Pop Art and Surrealism. This led to her interest in Photorealism and The Brotherhood of Ruralists leading to summer exhibitions at the Piccadilly Gallery, Cork Street and the Anthony Tooth Gallery, Maddox Street, London. Artist Statement Paintings “When researching ideas for landscape paintings I walk cross-country taking several photographs to gather detailed visual information. Using sections from photographs and drawings I select small areas that initially interest me to develop a series of experimental preparatory drawings and colour studies in the studio. The initial research can take some time but once I start the painting in the studio changes are constantly being made throughout the work to finalise the composition. I try to instil an element of mystery, space and depth in my work capturing the essence of the vast Norfolk and Suffolk landscapes which are a constant source of inspiration. The skies are always painted from direct observation from the studio windows which overlook farmland with views to the Waveney Valley and South Norfolk.” Prints “Although my work as a landscape painter is predominately figurative, there are elements of surrealism in the more detailed works. I have always had a yearning to return to printmaking which I studied at the Royal Academy Schools. The joy of making marks on a plate and carefully controlling each stage of the drawing and printing process can be inspiring but also challenging, particularly with monotype prints. Each monotype print is a unique print and at each stage of the drawing and printing process the results can be unpredictable.
