Winning the Battles In Your Mind Presents The Tongue Is Sharp Like A Sword Prepared by John Marshall When small child falls and cuts their knee, a mother’s soothing words, even while the blood is still oozing and the wound still hurts, creates a “just fine” emotional healing in the little one. However, if the child falls and harsh words like, “get up! Stop your crying and act like a grownup.” created an “I am not just fine” emotional wound within the child. Then, instead of just one scraped knee, two wounds must be healed. When you encounter someone who has been wounded, your words can create a healing atmosphere. When you encounter a situation where health has vanished away, are you helpful or harmful? Your words can bring forth a healing. A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but perversion in it crushes the spirit. (Proverbs 15:4) A tree keeps on giving fruit! What you say can continue to bring forth life and continue to bring forth health—it’s up to you and you will decide. When you are feeling down, there are cer- tain people that you want to talk to and other people you want to avoid. Some will say things that help you feel better, while others say things that make you feel worse. Examine yourself. Are situations better after you speak or are they worse? A sooth ing tongue is a tree of life, but perversion in it crushes the spirit. See, what you say can discourage. Your words can be devastating, and can sap the strength and momentum out of a person. Therefore, do you speak life and energy into circumstances, or do you use your words to be destructive?
