Wise words from @Jonni Greth: When I was crying, I think that God cried with me, and when I was hurting, I think that God felt my pain. That was the only comfort I had. This is a very sensitive issue concerning many people I love, both inside and outside JPUSA walls, and I am posting this for the benefit of both sides. As a coordinator at Jesus People USA, I heard many stories like this, so I know that they are telling the truth. These people were children at the time of the abuses, and children should be believed. And protected. If they were not believed and protected, they deserve an apology. Right now. Anyone who disagrees with this statement and ostracizes those who tell on their molesters will only make his or her own children afraid to tell the truth if and when they are abused. Let me make this clear: I love Jesus People USA, including the parts that have been damaged badly. I am not trying to destroy the community. JPUSA is a lively, vibrant culture, and I would be heartbroken if it shut down. I am only exhorting my beautiful, dysfunctional family to take a good, long look at the members it has damaged and make amends. Jesus People USA, you have too many good people in your ranks to let this continue. Quit protecting the leaders who silenced victims and put children in harms way. Stop calling molested children liars-- because I personally know you have. And for Gods sake, quit treating abused children who act out like theyre offenders. They are children, not criminals, and they need counseling--from an real-life licensed counselor-- not punishment. Quit saying, ...but the community has changed, and prove that the community has changed. Quit thinking about your future as a collective and say youre sorry. Publicly. Ignore your damn lawyer, and do the right thing. This is your chance. He who loves community destroys community, but he who loves his brother builds community. You taught me that, and Im watching to see if youll live up to it. All belligerent comments blaming the victims, promoting violence towards anyone in the community, or spoken without first listening to the victims will be deleted. vimeo/ondemand/noplacetocallhome
