Wise words from an original CrossFit Kid, Connor Stewart - TopicsExpress

Wise words from an original CrossFit Kid, Connor Stewart Martin…. Earlier today I posted on this video regarding my concerns. Clearly this competition is the exact opposite of our goal as a community, and definitely our goal as CrossFit Kids. Since my concerns were not met kindly in this private forum I would like to air them publicly and would ask if you agree that you share them. This was my post. Clearly, shes in pain and crying, she pushed through which is incredible and kudos to her for doing so. Putting this video online only displays this as the example and not the one time exception. The goal of CrossFit Kids is fun, and while we want to hone life skills like perseverance it cannot be at the expense of fun or safety. As coaches we need to check our egos at the door, take a minute and align ourselves with our goals. I cannot speak for the child in this video in terms of fun but personally I dont think tearing is fun or pushing to the point of tears. In terms of safety, assuming her hands were torn, then her grip is significantly compromised she is kipping with a monkey grip that allows for no feedback of weather or not you are going to slip. If she had what is right underneath her is a box to make a bad situation of falling from the bar much worse. Her coach should have stopped her, this video is definitively out of line with every concept that is taught at the CrossFit Kids course. But thats just my opinion...
