With 36 hours and counting until the end of the Latino/a Rising kickstarter, the last word goes to Pablo Brescia! Pablo’s stories show the uniqueness of U.S. Latino/a speculative fiction which often draws on literary traditions distinct from Anglo-American speculative fiction. Though living in Florida, Pablo retains a strong connection to the literary heritage of Latin America, in particular to that of his home Argentina. He has a phrase that perfectly describes what the Latino/a Rising project is all about: “Literary Politics.” We’re not only raising money for the anthology, we are trying to get readers and writers to pay attention to the beauties of U.S. Latino/a speculative fiction. We have an aesthetic agenda! For more information about his concept of “Literary Politics” see his essay: “A ‘Superior Magic’: Literary Politics and the Rise of the Fantastic in Latin American Fiction” scholarcommons.usf.edu/wle_facpub/4/ Pablo is a professor at the University of South Florida and the author of some brilliant collections: La apariencia de las cosas, No hay tiempo para la poesía, and Fuera de lugar. His stories have appeared in a number of anthologies including Se habla español: voces latinas en USA and Más allá de las fronteras. He is the recipient of the 2013 Status of Latinos Faculty Award and the 2010 Jamie Bishop Memorial Award given by the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts.
