With Dark Souls 2 barreling down on me, its release date steadily - TopicsExpress

With Dark Souls 2 barreling down on me, its release date steadily getting closer and closer, Im filled with an odd mix of feelings. First I am thrilled, excited, perhaps even happy that its going to be here and Im going to play it. Im probably going to enjoy it, at least enough to warrant the purchase and probably enough to carve out a special place in the community as Reagent of Tryhards or Emissary or the git gud sovereign. But I am also a bit down. Im neck deep in FFXIII and close enough to finishing the 100% file that I could likely finish before I obtain the new hotness Soul. But I had put extensive work into planning a challenge run (As I could find no reliable way to eliminate the presence of party members, nor does the structure of the game, similar to IX, allow for my preferred Solo challenge I had to research possible alternatives, that have a similar feel) And while I will always be able to come back to it later, Ive always always always rather work on the challenge run after completing the game, without distractions. In addition Its come to my attention that despite being a little too stuffed with mini games, like a fine ass in booty jeans (not my words) Your Third, rotating, party member is in fact a monster, A monster you choose from your collection, and the collecting of said monsters and the Customizable leveling you can do with them is a large part of the game. So Not only am I putting off a Challenge run, Im also putting off buying FFXIII - These characters were chosen at random: Pokemon edition. A game that sounds entertaining enough to be worth its now quite reasonable price, as I am a fan of the battle system, which not everyone was... A fact I understand as it doesnt feel quite like what youd expect from FF, though not as immediately jarring as XII (another system I liked, and a clever exercise in game design; Can the developers make a fair encounter that has some tricky workarounds that make the pre-planned Gambits far enough from optimal that you must stop, assess the situation and only proceed after youve learned, edited your plan, and put it to the test.) The Optima or Paradigm system has similar pre-planning but its somewhat less extensive (No Target: Enemy = Flying -- Action: Telekinesis) Which is both better and worse, depending on my mood. But the extensive amount of tricks and oddities that you can employ to gain small advantages here and there is engaging and allows for very very weak characters to beat fairly strong enemies If you put some thought into things (stop mashing auto-battle and solving your problems with grinding, just abuse the battle system) Its almost a bummer that Dark souls 2 will in all likelihood consume my attention to the point where I will lose all motivation I currently have to play FF: Pokemon (Ive heard you can get Ultros and he comes with the classic Octopus Ink attack, seriously who doesnt want this?) lWs].
