With Halloween approaching, I thought that I would give you a taste of our upcoming book titled #ThelegendsoftheNorwinds Chapter 1 Greta stood next to her husband Peter’s tomb stone, and as she knelt she placed a red rose on top of the grave of the man that she loved so dearly. It was a chilly afternoon although the sun was shining brightly, but the wind was blowing from the north bringing with it a coldness that seemed to go through her spring jacket. She thought of her husband with fondness, and also with a sense of dread; knowing she was now left alone to raise their only child Rebecca. Peter Manning’s death had been a suspicious one, and the town’s people talked behind his wife’s back accusing her in some way of having a hand in it. Greta had been sleeping next to her husband when his death had occurred, and that fact alone sparked the beginning of the terrible gossip in the very small community. The community where the Manning’s lived that stood in a quiet rural country setting where everyone seemed to know the very business of their neighbors, and where everyone seemed to get along quiet well. They had lived in this town for several years ever since they themselves were young teenagers; the same town where Greta had married Peter, and where they had prepared for their daughter Rebecca’s birth. Mystery seemed to follow the odd couple, and it surrounded them. They stayed mostly to themselves, but somehow they had fit into this rural place. Peter commuted to the nearby city where he had done quite well for the family expanding further his father’s successful construction company that he had taken ownership of when his father passed away. Upon Peter’s death he had made sure that his family would be well taken care of. He had left a very large sum of money on a life insurance policy which set Greta and Rebecca up so they would not need to go without. The large amount of money that Greta received was yet another thing that made their neighbors gossip about Peter’s death. Some of the neighbors talked of the possibility that Greta had poisoned her husband while others thought it merely as an unfortunate death that resulted from natural causes such as a heart attack. Peter had been gone it seemed to the city more than he had spent time with his family as he expanded the company which had left Greta to raise Rebecca much of the time by herself. The coroner’s report listed Peter’s death as inconclusive, but Greta had her own theory of her beloved husband’s death; her theory that she could link back to several generations of his family; the same suspicious death of his grandfather, and also many others in his blood line. A blood line Greta knew about, and often feared; the blood line that was kept secret, and the line at times that skipped a person in the same generation. The very line that she prayed would skip her daughter and one day end the torment that came with it. As Greta now stood there at Peters grave side she whispered to herself that she would protect Rebecca at all costs, and she also promised Peter the same as she had once done several months before his death. She knew in her heart what she needed to do, but would she have the strength to keep Peter’s dark secret from their daughter. People did not understand Rebecca as she was a quiet child who often kept to herself. She was different from other children, and both Greta and Peter had decided long ago when, and if the time would come that Rebecca like her father would show the signs of change they would flee with her to a remote and rural place. As Greta stood there in silence looking upon his grave she remembered all that Peter had told her and all he had instructed her to do, and as she recalled all the stories of his blood line and she remembered how they had met.
