With a country like North Korea, its hard to tell whether this is a way of seeking high-level contact with the Obama Administration, an attempt to disprove charges that Pyongyang is behind the Sony hack, or an excellent bluff - but the country is threatening grave consequences if the United States refuses to open a joint investigation into the source of the hack. Of course, couching the offer in a threat gives Washington every reason to refuse - which it would have done in any case. Whoever is behind the hack, North Korea, U.S. intelligence, or an anonymous group of hacker pranksters - is not keen on having the truth come to light. KCNA quoted the foreign ministry as saying: As the United States is spreading groundless allegations and slandering us, we propose a joint investigation with it into this incident. ... Without resorting to such tortures as were used by the CIA, we have means to prove that this incident has nothing to do with us.”
