With considerable funding from anti-gay right-wing evangelical groups in the U.S., Slovakia has announced it will hold a public referendum to decide if gay people will or wont have rights. But as Danielle Viotte of the European Parliament notes, “I do not understand how the Constitutional Court ruled that these questions are in line with the Slovak Constitution, which specifically forbids referenda on issues of fundamental rights and liberties.”
