With firsthand knowledge of how repressing negative feelings and thoughts might manifest itself in physical health, I see a need to acknowledge this. Of course, it would be detrimental to express negative emotions more prominently than others all the time. In fact, a lot of studies show that expressing anger can lead to more angry feelings rather than purge you of them as a type of catharsis. I am grateful for exposure to a lot of self-help reading and communication education to help cultivate positive thoughts, but I am as grateful if not more for things like acting and writing to bring down the walls sometimes. As with everything, it seems a matter of balance, and I am thrilled to have already started that journey prior to reading the article.
