With football season quickly approaching, here at The Fantasy Guru we want to make sure you are drafting a winning team, so we will be posting our top fantasy players at each position throughout the week. Its only fitting we start with the quarterback position, so here goes: 1. Peyton Manning Not much of a surprise here, but after losing Eric Decker and at 38 years of age, he still has his doubters. As this might be true, Denver did pick up Emmanuel Sanders during the offseason, who is not much of a red zone threat at only 511, but I do expect him to get over 1000 yards for the season. With a bolstered defense and a running back in Montee Ball who has yet to prove himself in the NFL, you can expect Manning to carry the load for the Broncos. 2. Aaron Rogers Many people will argue Rodgers should be the consensus #1 Qb taken in drafts over Manning, but lets take a look at the facts. For the purpose of this analysis lets compare Rodgerss 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons with Mannings 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons. During these seasons, Manning attempted 188 more passes than Rodgers, while throwing 8 more touchdown passes than Rodgers during the two best years of his career. Green Bay just recently lost James Jones this past offseason, who scored 17 touchdowns for the Packers in the past two years. Rodgers still throws a bullet, but with an emerging running game in Green Bay, we can expect a dip in fantasy production from him this year. 3. Drew Brees Number 2 in fantasy points only a season ago, and with Graham coming back with that fat contract, you cant expect a down year from the former Super Bowl MVP. He will be without Darren Sproles for the first time in years, but Pierre Thomas looks to fill that role with an emerging young receiver in Kenny Stills on the outside. 4. Andrew Luck Mhm. I said it. Luck has already made a name for himself not only by being clutch, (most game-winning drives in last two seasons in the NFL), but by surrounding himself with targets to throw at. The Colts acquired Hakeem Nicks during the offseason, and with a healthy Reggie Wayne and an emerging T.Y. Hilton to throw at, you cant argue that Luck will end up being a top 5 fantasy quarterback by the end of the season. He finished fourth in fantasy scoring just one season ago, and this year the Colts have the easiest schedule in the NFL, making Luck look like one ripe piece of fruit. 5. Matthew Stafford In terms of numbers, Stafford has a lot to prove this season if he wants to be a top 5 fantasy quarterback. Last season he threw the ball 90 more times than Phillip Rivers, yet he had less than 200 more passing yards than him and Rivers had 3 more touchdowns. And oh yeah, Stafford was throwing to Calvin Johnson while Rivers was throwing to Eddie Royal and rookie Keenan Allen. Of his three complete seasons playing in the NFL, Stafford had the lowest completion percentage this past season, while throwing the most interceptions in his career. On the bright side, Detroit acquired Seahawks wideout Golden Tate this offseason, who should look to take some of the pressure off Calvin Johnson in the secondary. New Lions head coach Jim Caldwell is looking to relieve Stafford of some of the offensive pressure, which ultimately should free Stafford to be more consistent in his passing game. Thanks for reading, check in soon to see our breakdown on the top running backs for this upcoming season.
