With great regret we learned today the Wednesday Night Masters - TopicsExpress

With great regret we learned today the Wednesday Night Masters program has ended its tenure in Kenosha that dated back to 1996. We would like to clear the air on what Wisconsin Bicycle Racing President Carl Wilkins is alleging. The sweetheart deal the city has given us to run the velodrome was reciprocal. We need to fulfill certain obligations in order for us to schedule events and set up track usage fees. Last November the Board of Directors unanimously passed a $10 membership fee. With that membership, members can reserve the track for events or group training. Non-members were to be charged $100 per event. It was the Boards opinion that these fees would help cover insurance for Monday Night Stock Bike and any structured training. Our program runs on a very limited budget. The upkeep on our loaner bikes and equipment is quite costly. With the limited sponsors and outside support our Monday Night program would not have been able to continue. The program is for kids that begin as early as 2 and progress from the little track to the big track. We have the bikes for the kids to make this transition. Bike racing, as everyone knows, is an expensive sport. If it wasnt for our Monday Night stable of bikes, 100s of kids would have never been exposed to our sport. I cant possibly fathom the reasoning behind WBR (Carl Wilkins) for not supporting children of our community that have an interest bike racing. A sport that he supposedly supports. Talking with other tracks across the country, their fees range from $50.00 - $250.00. We are asking for $10.00, Thats all.
