With incessant and heavy rains after the cyclonic storm, flood - TopicsExpress

With incessant and heavy rains after the cyclonic storm, flood water has inundated the paddy fields with paddy at matured stage. If it persists, the crops in the fields will decompose and get destroyed. It will lead to shortage of paddy in the State besides hitting every farmer of 22 affected districts below their belt. Is the government prepared for this crisis. So far as agriculture and forestry are concerned, the havoc created by nature during last fortnight has finished the State pushing it 20 years backward. The state Government besides assessing the over all loss in various sectors has to make a consolidated planning for restoration and resurgence of the economy on short term as well as long term basis. The rural roads, electrification, housing and farming have to be given priority. Liberal loans at low rate of interest to be advanced to farmers, weavers and the fishermen to create rural employment. Piecemeal measures like distribution of umbrella, cycles, mobile phones etc. should be abandoned. It is time to rebuild Odisha with proper planning and vision, instead of using administration with the next election in view.
