With our icebergs on earth, scientists are still figuring it out on its overall evolution. Theyre difficult to study and experiment. As a matter of fact, it can be tough just getting to one. Whilst we know where icebergs come from and have a general idea of how they behave, every expedition to an iceberg uncovers something new. From the floating chunks no larger than your own vehicle to massive islands of ice the size of the state of Connecticut in the US, icebergs derive from numerous forms and shapes. An icebergs is a massive chunk of ice thats floating in the ocean, it isnt sea ice or park ice, which forms as the result of ocean water freezing. An iceberg was once part of a glacier, but it broke off, fell into the ocean and floated away. Icebergs are made of freshwater. They can have very irregular shapes, like mountains of ice, or they can be flat with steep sides such as plateau of ice. Since the icebergs are made completely out of ice its the solid phase of water, reached at a temperature of 32 degrees-Fahrenheit for pure freshwater. Saltwater however has a lowering freezing temperature, essentially, any molecules that arent water molecules get in the way they try to line up and form ice. Saltwater has a greater density than freshwater because the extra molecules are thicker than plain water molecules!
