With respect to the talks about sanctions and the fata morgana of splitting the EU away off the US under the present conditions: the EU is a US and NATO protectorate with some wiggle room on the sidelines and in PR. Otherwise, the US and NATO is completely serious about bringing the Ukrainian adventure, the anti-Russian crusade to a finish. In this situation, the current polarization of people and society is between those who are in denial and who start taking these issues seriously enough (and then in dependence on where they decide to stand). For Russia, it has now come to make within its elite a strategic choice between either choosing Russia and getting serious or giving the pro-Western liberals the role of domestic political hegemon (most likely in some form akin to those in Ukraine, that is, fascist-like as a minimum) and discarding Russias national interests in Novorossiya and Russia itself. The crisis in Ukraine and the pressure of the war and NATO are forcing the Russian elite to determine itself. So far it was possible for them to avoid making a choice and decision, which was certainly an easier condition to be in.
