With the 150th Anniversary events taking place here in Gettysburg, one group we have seen a sharp increase in have been the Boy Scouts of America. On Independence Day, 1950, General Dwight Eisenhower met with Boy Scouts from across the country at the national jamboree, held that year at Valley Forge, PA, where he described to the scouts what patriotism and America mean to him. You can read his speech, a fantastic address, being both touching and brief, here: eisenhower.archives.gov/education/bsa/citizenship_merit_badge/speeches/boy_scout_jamboree_1950.pdf Both the Eisenhower National Historic Site and the Eisenhower Presidential Library have unique BSA badges that scout can earn by visiting and learning about the life and times of Dwight Eisenhower.
