With the media attention on #RayRice today and reading everyones outraged posts on social media, it got me thinking, would we be talking about it if it wasnt for his celebrity? DV happens every single day. There are people living in fear for their families lives, people who need emergency shelter, crisis services, and counseling right here in Boston. I am fortunate enough to serve on the board of New Englands first domestic violence agency, and the second oldest in the nation. For over 40 years RESPOND has provided life-saving shelter, support services, training and education to more than 100,000 members of the community. I got involved with RESPOND because I felt that this was an organization and a cause that is under-served. They dont have the billion dollar budget that some of these non-profits have, yet they provide a very important service to the community. I would encourage all of my friends to please visit the website and make a donation. Even one small donation could provide a night of shelter to someone in need right here in our community. If you cant donate, there is also a wish list of items needed at the shelter, from diapers to toiletries to baby blankets. Anything that you can donate will go to good use. In addition, you can support RESPOND by attending our annual RESPONDing to Domestic Violence Gala on 10/24 at Hotel Marlowe: bit.ly/1tns90K Thank you for listening! Michelle
