With the new dispensations, can the purported draconian - TopicsExpress

With the new dispensations, can the purported draconian legislation in the emotive bill causing ruckus in parliament affect me in my county?(with this constitution and counties, we ceased being a United country more of fragmented tribal fiefdoms like wazungus found us in the late 1880s and thus should look at national issues through the partisan lenses of our counties, tribes etc). The answer is zero effects on my community, maybe the members of Somali community will get it rough from the cops who will harass them in the pretect of implementing the new laws while in hindsight out to swindle the community. Also, it isnt like the Somali community is concerned, the staunchest defender of the bill is their own, leader of the majority Duale. Maybe they are aware that the bills of rights in the constitution are untouched and when the police clamp on them hard, they will rush to court for the incoming law to be declared unconstitutional. Anyway, I wanted to talk about parliament and the few minutes I spent watching in the morning. Here I am completely indifferent and emotionless to yet another tiff between the government and opposition. Back in the days of speakers, Keino, Kaparo and Marende, we used to be passionate about what was happening in parliament that you will find pubs filled with people as early as 9 am ready to witness verbal spurring in the parliament precincts from giants like Muite, Orengo, Anyona, Shikuku, Karua, Mwai Kibaki and even the clowns such as the late Mwenje and the late Kajwang (didnt they fought once in parliament?, and Mwenje accused Kajwang of biting him). But then, times were tough especially under Mois regime. And sometimes they allowed live debates on radio or KBC. Anyway, today I find myself watching for the memories. We have still a few eloquent debaters like Ababu out of the expanded house but it is the speaker who is wanting. First of all, he is no referee and you can see from the onset that he has aligned himself to the government and treats the members of opposition with outright disdain and condescending. More like a class teacher would treat his class 3 school pupils. He is also verbose and spend half the time listening to his voice as he lectures the members. If he was a referee in a football match, I am sure he will give red cards to players of a team he doesnt like before the start of the match.. in conclusion, he is no Kaparo or Marende or even Keino, he is more of a Kanjora speaker. Thank God for the counties, which means I dont get to watch him more regularly. I am also not disappointed that we have replacement for the likes of Orengo, but then the way the speaker is speaking on behalf of Jubilee, he shall deny the opportunity for legislature from his Jubilee side to shine.
