Within the past two weeks, the fine folks at the Western History Dept. of the Central Denver Library have done a terrific thing! They digitized an absolutely huge map entitled - MAP OF THE GOLD REGIONS IN THE VICINITY OF CENTRAL CITY, GILPIN COUNTY, COLORADO TERRITORY. This map (which measures 5 feet, 3 inches wide x 4 feet, 4 inches tall), is mounted on the wall in the room immediately West of the J. K. Mullen Manuscript Room, Western History Dept., 5th floor, Central Denver Public Library, 10 W. 14th Ave. Pkwy., Denver, CO 80204. Many thanks to Bruce Hanson (Western History Reference Librarian), Coi E. Drummond-Gehrig (Digital Image Collection Administrator) and Ben Miller (Operations Coordinator, Denver Public Library-Western History/Genealogy Services Lab.) Bruce started the ball rolling and coordinated with Coi, who was kind enough to have Ben (cameraman) produce the highly-detailed digital image of this wonderful, very early map of the county that we all love. The image that you see attached to this posting is not the highly-detailed version, since FACEBOOK must impose limits on the number of pixels that can be posted here. However, the link below will take you to a high-resolution, full-frame view of the vintage photo on the Denver Librarys website. If you use the Enlargement Bar on top of the photo, you can see a very significant enlargement, with great detail. cdm16079.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p16079coll39/id/537 Atop the image on that website, on the far right-hand side, click on the icon – “DOWNLOAD.” A drop-down menu will give you the option to download to your personal computer - SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE or FULL RESOLUTION. Again, THANK YOU, Western History Department!
