Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, Hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and faith. These YOU OUGHT TO HAVE DONE without leaving the others undone. BLIND GUIDES WHO STRAIN OUT A GNAT AND SWALLOW A CAMEL. Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish but inside they are full of EXTORTION AND SELF INDULGENCE. Blind pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish that the outside of them may be clean also. And you say, If we had lived in the days of our fathers we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. Therefore you are witnesses against your selves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. FILL UP THE MEASURE OF YOUR FATHERS GUILT. SERPENTS, BROOD OF VIPERS! HOW CAN YOU ESCAPE THE CONDEMNATION OF HELL? I send you prophets, wise men and scribes, some of them you will kill and crucify and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city that on you may come all the righteous bloodshed on the earth. ASSUREDLY, I SAY TO YOU, ALL THESE THINGS WILL COME UPON THIS GENERATION. COMMENTARY: To extort someone is to obtain from a person by force, intimidation, or undue or illegal power or by ingenuity or compelling argument. A scribe is one of the learned class in ancient Israel through New Testament times studying the scriptures and serving as copyists, editors, teachers and jurists. The pharisees were members of a Jewish sect noted for strict observance of rites and ceremonies of the written law and for insistence on the validity of their own oral traditions concerning the law. Few people would know and if they did know would not tell you that the attendance at church and the adherence to the doctrines of churches is not commanded by the apostles or Jesus. It is written in an epistle of Paul, which is an answer to questions placed with him from those who were seeking the way and not having him present with them, regarding gathering together. Paul writes to them, COME TOGETHER AS SOME OF YOU HAVE GROWN ACCUSTOMED TO DOING. In other words, it is not an instruction but again a concession to people who lived under the law of ceremonies and rituals encouraged by the Pharisees who had no empirical evidence of God, which is what faith is and faith is a gift of God through His grace, which is to say, the manifestation of His glory through great signs and wonders in the time He could be found. And while Jesus and the apostles taught in the synagogues as synagogues were not the same as Churches of today for they were vast complexes with courtyards, market places and special places where only certain people were allowed, they spoke to the people who were oppressed by the laws and punishments of the leaders of the synagogues. So when you hear of persecutions it is the people who lead churches who persecute you if you do not do as they say. The pharisee is one who speaks of the things of God by tradition not REVELATION. The scribe is a copyist and teacher of what the law and scripture record. He is not one who can bring understanding of the purpose of the law which is to be tutor to the same righteous mind which was in Jesus and the apostles. What we refer to as the mind of Christ which is the savior of men in that it has been given evidence and substance of the glory of God through vision of it. The extortionist continually speaks about money. I heard Pat Robertson say the other day, Give at every opportunity and God will bless you for it. Now this is a lie for the things of God cannot be purchased with money. And the scripture informs you to give away your money in order to seek God for if you have money you will use it as a defense against the world rather than God and the rich man is no different than the poor man for he also goes to the grave. So those who continually ask you for money as the pharisee asked for offerings of food and spices and animals etc to maintain the so called temple of God without serving you to come to the truth of God who separates you from these worldly things that you may hope in God in the time He can be found for God cannot always be found, are extortionists as Jesus referred to them not me. Now listen to me Dear Reader; do not be dismayed nor withhold money from him who asks of you for he is accountable for your soul as if for his very own. A man defiles and condemns himself by what comes out of his mouth. And he who speaks lies to you informs you to have faith but you cannot have faith unless it be given to you by the grace of God which is the vision of His glory that you may be fully assured and when this comes, and it surely will, God himself will send His angels to rescue you from the man who is the hypocrite, liar and viper who extorts you rather than love you as you contend for faith which is the purpose of the law.
