Woke up to discover that my phone calls yesterday to an Austrian - TopicsExpress

Woke up to discover that my phone calls yesterday to an Austrian freephone number (energy company) from my parents UK landline (which I mostly spent on hold in a queue) have racked up a bill for me of £169. Virgin Media list a *maximum* charge (on my parents tariff) of 59.24p/min for calls to Austria (already dead expensive, especially if that includes freephone numbers), but these calls worked out at almost five times that. Since then, Virgin Media have barred the phone, and are demanding £60 to get it unblocked (despite the barring being aggressively imposed without anyones request or consent). Do any friends have experiences of similar situations, or suggestions as to how to handle it? Virgin Media are being (how to phrase this...) entirely unhelpful.
