Women from remote Mirik village set to start career PRASHANT ACHARYA, MIRIK, 19 Dec 2014: Thirty two women from Chenga village under Mirik block of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) have united to set an example for the society who things that the beauty parlor profession spoils the image. These poor women from the women are being given the Beauty parlor training project for the first time by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Darjeeling under and managed by a local NGO Chenga Nari Sewa Samity. The women who are undergoing training since last one month have decided to run the business in a cooperative form and by investing their own budget to construct the infrastructure. Trainee Gayatri Sharma said, “The image of the women working in the beauty parlor has been spoiled after the number of reports of illegal flesh trade. But we have decided to run a parlor in a cooperative manner untidily among 32 members of Chenga Nari Sewa Samity. We are not seeking training and will complete within January first week.” “The parlor will be initially built at Chenga village with the investment of these women and later extend its wing all over the district,” said Diwakari Chhetri president of Samity. Buddha Subba a trainer for these 32 women said, “I am very proud to train these enthusiastic students who have made their mind to develop their carrier in this field and earn to support for their family.” These women who have faced the various hurdles in the village due to financial crisis and other obstacles have now decided to be self dependant and not wait for any support. Malati Sharma a social worker of the villages said that this is for the first time that women from the village have come forward to learn and take training on beauty and fashion profession. The villagers are also facing problems due to wild elephant’s rampage in the village every night and destroy the crops. [EOI]
