Malaysia: Unclaimed payouts for MAS plane victims total US$2.3 mn Source: eDaily | 25 Aug 2014 A total of MYR7.1 million (US$2.25 million) in compensation payouts to beneficiaries of passengers on the two Malaysian Airlines (MAS) aircraft lost this year remains unclaimed to date, according to the Life Insurance Association Of Malaysia (LIAM) president, Mr Vincent Kwo. MAS MH370 disappeared on 8 March while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing while MH17 was shot down over Ukraine on 17 July en route from Amsterdam to the Malaysian capital. Mr Kwo said that the unclaimed sum is part of the MYR34.2 million compensation prepared by insurance companies for the victims on both flights, reported the Malay Mail. “Until last July, MYR15.9 million from MYR18.7 million insurance for passengers on MH370 was paid to their heirs, while the remainder has yet to be claimed,” he said. As for MH17 victims, MYR11.2 million from MYR15.5 million in compensation has been claimed and there is still MYR4.3 million unclaimed involving 95 insurance policies, he was quoted as saying. There were 38 Malaysians among the 227 people on board MH370 and 43 Malaysians among the 298 people aboard MH17.
