Word For The Week: CHURCH! “Building Faithful Families (BFF)” Fall Series A CHURCH is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints. –Pauline Phillips Election season always presents great opportunity to revisit policies, laws, etc., like the widely heralded “separation of CHURCH and state” debate. So, Blackademically Speaking, in this same season why not introduce my very own separation of CHURCH and Family ‘debate’?! (Insert:PAUSE!) Despite its many complexities and debatable shortcomings, the CHURCH has historically rich ties to our families. Yet, through the years & for many reasons, we’ve broken our ties as a family. In step with our, “Building Faithful Families (BFF)” Fall Series, many of our familial challenges are rooted in the inherent spiritual changes. We forgo aiding in each others welfare because we forget - this is spiritual warfare! Were broken as a familial unit due to how (over time) we slowly parted ways with what kept us a unit. Truth is, we claim newer/deeper spiritual ties as the reason why we’re absent from the CHURCH; but I believe there are those that still blame their childhood ties and/thus can’t live out being Called (back) to the CHURCH. As we are content, individually, we must ask: who and where are we collectively? Are we not our sister/brothers keeper? Are we not only as strong as our weakest link? Our families, not just this world, need some new policies & laws of their own. It’s about time that we revisit & heal from our pain, redeem our innate power & restore what God has promised! Let’s eliminate the idea of a sole debate re: CHURCH and State.
